Environmental Movement and the Civil Rights Movement
While the movements are fighting for very different topics, of course, the parallels are easy to see. The environmental movement has powerful champions like Al Gore, Agnes Denes and Amy Balkin. Some of the most extraordinary that ever existed fought for civil rights, such as Martin Luther King and Malcolm X. Neither movement is just sprung from the ground, but were the result of centuries of work, abolitionists such as WEB Dubois and environmentalists like Henry David Thoreau.
So what can we learn from the fact that the movements are similar? The first is that we are fighters (you can call them artists if you will) need of bold ideas. African-Americans have waited long enough for whites to give them their rights before the fat people reinforced the top with bold ideas. The boycott, sit-ins, marches and other creative resistance organized justice blacks in America happened at the end.
Their efforts have persuaded the government to see their views. Black leaders not end racism, but. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated before he had seen his world view. The U.S. government does not end racism. It was not until modern times, the 21 To fade century, the racial issues have finally begun. Why now?
He began with an idea. A government official genius took a white girl doll and a doll of a black girl and black girl asked, “What is the best?” When the girls chose the white doll, the world was moving. Complete segregation in the schools. A new era of education reform was slow. Each year, since the idea of ??tolerance is more rooted in the mind of every student in the United States. How Could They! Revenge and Compassion
Killing in October 2006, a lone gunman entered an Amish school in one piece in rural Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, 10 girls (five others were hospitalized). It turns out that the alleged killer of two young girls a few years before, which is also known that he is factually a girl who had died a premature death, attacked – a death for which he was never God’s forgiveness. He wanted revenge, and he called for in this school.
What followed is impressive, and some mind-numbing to others.
Nestled in mourning her loss, the Amish community responded with forgiveness.People do not want to blame, revenge, run to the nearest law firm “lawyer up” Rally for gun control or any other way “to the crime.” On the contrary, her humble and quiet way, they have their hand with compassion and mercy of the murderers of the extended family to provide comfort of your own pain and suffering. They donated money to the wife of the murderer and children. The murderer’s family was invited to a funeral of the girl’s Amish and Amish mourners were more than non-Amish killer’s funeral.
In December 1998 over Lockerbie, Scotland, a Pan Am Boeing 747 crashed killing 270 passengers on board. Abdel Basset Ali Al Megrahi Mohmed, a Libyan, was convicted of the bombing. This week (August 20, 2009), he was released from prison because he has terminal prostate cancer and only weeks to live. Scottish Justice Minister has released “reasons of compassion.”
A recent unscientific poll asked CNN.com readers, “Are you publish agree with the decision for the Lockerbie bombing Abdelbeset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi?” 92% said the writing, “No”
My feeling is that most reasonable, decent people, the answer would reveal the spirit of Amish, the reaction of the Scottish justice minister and the 8% who like the kamikaze response, agreed that release? Stupid? Outrageous? Soft? Liberal?Foolish? Spiritually inept? Ridiculous? Unbelievable? Unfair? Political stance, or …?
Bert Ammerman, whose brother Tom was killed on the flight, said the release of Megrahi was “stupid, immoral, (and) wrong.” A parent of a girl who was killed described the release as “appalling, disgusting and sickening way.”
On the other hand, died Jim Swire, whose daughter Flora in the attack on the BBC radio: “. I do not think the verdict is correct, it would be an abominable cruelty to force this man to die in prison.” A local citizens in Lockerbie, said the statement “I think a part of the sympathy … it should be allowed. Life goes on, and when a tragedy like this has on the people to resume the thread of her life. You don ‘t forget, but they do not respond to them. There’s no point dwelling on the land of all that. “Finally,” There is only one little thing that says this is not released any of us for him and will die with his family to hurt,”said Caroline Stevens of Little Rock, Arkansas, the son of Sandy Phillips, died in the attack. “We need each other in a compassionate and not rely on war and revenge and all that to .”looking
